We want to give you something to SMILE about. And it’s here! Sawyer Eye Center is one of the first in the country to offer SMILE (SMall Incision Lenticule Extraction) – the newest minimally-invasive procedure to correct myopia (nearsightedness). The latest laser vision correction from ZEISS may be your ticket to glasses-free, contact-free clear vision.

What is SMILE?

SMILE is the latest in laser vision correction for myopia (nearsightedness), providing LASIK-like outcomes in a minimally invasive procedure. A laser is used to create a thin contact-lens shape layer just beneath the surface of the eye and then a small opening through which that layer is removed, correcting your vision. Worldwide, over 2,000,000 SMILE procedures have been performed by more than 1,000 surgeons. And these numbers continue to grow every day!

How is SMILE Different than LASIK?

During LASIK, a small flap is made on the surface of your eye, the laser then reshapes your cornea – correcting your refractive error – and the flap is lowered so it can heal. With SMILE, no flap is made. Instead, the laser makes a tiny opening on the surface of your eye. This advanced laser also creates a lens-shaped disc of tissue insideyourcornea that is removed through the small incision.
